TESTIMONIALS
“What Peter Sham managed to do with his book for the musical Lend Me A Tenor is to not only solidify the play's strengths, but he made the play sing as well. Not only are the ideas for the songs in the show original and smart, but Peter supplied clever, funny, first-rate lyrics, elevating the material to a new level. The superb reviews the show received in London are a testament to his achievement. The act of musicalizing a story is no easy task. Mr. Sham’s effort on Lend Me A Tenor: The Musical is a rare and singular accomplishment, which only a handful of artists not only in the country but also in the world can claim to have achieved. His work in the theatre has made me a life-long fan.”
– LONNY PRICE, Broadway & Emmy Award-winning Actor & Director
“I have worked with Peter Sham in many capacities in the theater world, but I know him quite well as a playwright and creator. Peter has a great passion for theatre, and that comes across in every endeavor. He has an idea, he sets his mind on it, and sets out to accomplish the task at hand. Whether in a rehearsal room with many in attendance or working quietly on a script, Peter is inspiring to anyone who can learn from his work aesthetic. Peter is a true artist, with bountiful talents. There’s nobody I would rather have “in the room” than Peter Sham.
– ROGER BEAN, Award-winning Author, Director & Producer
“Peter Sham is an artist whose flexibility ranges from Shakespeare to contemporary plays to musical comedies. I am not aware of another artist who is able to navigate so effortlessly, and with such a high level of excellence, through such a wide variety of genres and styles. Sham is one of the most generous and collaborative artists I have had the pleasure to witness. He creates an environment in which those who are mentored by his guidance, either in the rehearsal room or in the studio, find that their own creativity exceeds their own expectations. Indeed, I have learned a great deal from Professor Sham in my own work as a regional theatre artist and as an educator.”
– CHRISTOPHER DUVAL, Stage Combat Specialist, Actor, Author & Educator
“I can think of no individual with whom I have enjoyed working with more than Peter Sham. Apart from his brilliant mind, nimble wit, and a talent to write clever verses, he is, moreover, a beautiful and utterly generous person. Peter is smart. He understands how to craft a show and understands what is required and what is at stake in doing so. I would work with Peter again without a moment's notice. As a writer and a librettist, he is uniquely gifted.”
– DAVID ELLIOTT, New York Producer & Director
Being a top-drawer teacher while producing superb scholarly work is no easy feat. But Peter's contributions to his discipline are astounding. In fact, I believe he is the first person in the history of SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts to have received the award for Outstanding Scholar of the Year. Again, as book writer/lyricist for Lend Me A Tenor: The Musical and several other musical works I am familiar with, he is a student of the craft while always looking to continue to learn and grow in the field of narrative storytelling. Life and the human experience are about stories and Peter has grown and matured into a master storyteller.
– MICHAEL T. BENSON, President of Coastal Carolina University, SC
I met Peter when his theatre company was putting on a production of my play, Lend Me A Tenor. I never visit productions of my own plays - however, Peter talked me into it, and I was surprised and delighted to see a thoroughly first-rate version of my work, starring Peter Sham. Peter is a terrific actor, a skilled director and a gifted artistic director. I observed first-hand how he worked with his colleagues, and it was clear to me that everyone at the theatre, professionals and audience alike, adored and respected him. Since that time, I've gotten to know Peter even better and discovered that he is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of theatre, both practical and intellectual. In sum, I am a great admirer of Peter's enormous talent, knowledge, personal skills and artistic integrity.

REPRESENTATIVE REVIEWS
About Max Prince in Neil Simon’s LAUGHTER ON THE 23rd FLOOR:
“LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR IS CONSTANTLY HILARIOUS...
...However, it is Peter Sham that anchors the show with his portrayal of Max. Sham effortlessly transitions from sincere affection to Napoleonic rage, making it easy to understand why his staff simultaneously fears and adores him. ...Max can’t bear the thought of firing one of his staff, and Sham does an excellent job of conveying that concern in a way that is comic yet believable. Sham’s acting experience is clear, and makes him a tent pole of this comedy.”

BEHIND THE SCENES
Far Remote was made as part of the 2020-21 season for Southern Utah University's Department of Theatre, Dance, & Arts Administration. It was a labor of love for my students. In the most challenging and difficult year of the pandemic, I felt it important that they be a part of something that could rekindle their imaginations and give them hope for a brighter future. But most importantly, I wanted them to have the time of their lives. After what they’d been through, they deserved it. During the year, while teaching various directing courses, I noticed that the claustrophobic nature of the Zoom platform could be a powerful element in the telling of stories of horror and suspense. And so with great friend and expert DP, Wil Cowser, a strong group of extraordinary young actors, and a little inspiration from Moby Dick of all things, I began to develop the vision and screenplay. Far Remote concerns a study abroad trip that gets hijacked by an obsessed, rogue professor hellbent on getting her revenge on a "white vampire." And yes, I believe we crushed The Bechdel Test several times over! The film was actually cast before a single word was written. The treatment was developed over Christmas break 2020, it was written in 13 days beginning on February 8, began filming on March 15, began post-production on April 16, and premiered for the university and community audiences on Friday, April 23, 2021. Far Remote to everyone's surprise and delight was a great success. It seemed to strike a nerve; its timeliness and relevance resonated in our community. I believe this was because it's a work that marks this moment in history. A moment the world will never forget. Needless to say, we ALL had the time of our lives.
